Willyum Jan Poldue

It taake all soarts ta maake a world
My Granfer used ta say,
And every wan ov em is ere,
We see some every day.

Some ov tha thengs thay say and do
Is whistness droo and droo,
So now I'ud like ta tell a taale
Bout Willyum Jan Poldue.

Eeused ta play tha organ you,
Ere in tha Senday School,
Ee play'd up en tha Chapel too
Cos ee wudden no vool.

A moar consaited man thun ee
Ded never draw en breath,
Ee lived in thiggy datch'd roof'd owse,
And died there, up Colvreath.

Another wan I used ta knaw
Wus poar awld Sam Treloar,
Ee too went ta tha Chapel ere
And wus tha organ blawer.

Et must be fifty 'eers ago
That Jan wus ask'd ta play
Some special music ee pick'd out
For Annaversery Day.

Ee said ta Sam vore ee ded staart,
"Now mind you play yer paart.
As you da knaw tha people ere
Do thenk I'm viddy smaart"

"Jest kep tha bellaws vull ov wind
And you'm awld nuff ta knaw
When I play vast then you blaw vast,
When I play slaw, blaw slaw."

"There's wan theng moar I want ta say,
So lissen Sam Treloar,
I be a viddy organest -
You'm jest a organ blawer."

"A lot ov people will turn up
And you and me boath knaw,
They'll all eb ere ta hear me play
And not ta see you blaw."

"Now when I've finished doant ee see
And play'd me pieces droo,
Tha people then will clapp ther 'ands,
Then you clapp your 'ands too."

But Same ee dedden say a word
Cos ee ded av a plan
Ta scat some ov that awld consait
Right out of Willyum Jan.

Tha Chapel ee wus vull'd right up,
And saits put in tha aisles,
When Willym Jan ded see tha crowd
Hes faace wus vull ov smiles.

Ee got up pon tha organ stool
And staarted off ta play,
Hes hand and shoulders rockin
Like a boaat out on tha zay.

Ee renn'd hes vingers 'long tha kays
And maade some purty sound,
And every mouth wus gaaped abroad
Ta clunk tha music down.

Then all ta waance tha music stopp'd
Vore ee got haff way droo.
Ee thump'd tha kays and digg'd hes haid
But nawthin cud ee do.

Tha people wonder'd wot wus up,
They knaw'd summin wus wrong,
They look'd aich other in tha faace
And wesper'd lound and long.

Then from tha back ov tha organ
Poar Sam Treloar stepp'd out,
Ee pull'd tha courtain back wan side
Then ta tha crowd ded shout.

"Dear fraends" ee shouted "wan and all,
Tis Annaversery Day,
And every wan ov ee av com'd
To hear Willyum Jan play."

"Now Willyum Jan do allus thenk
All praise is due ta ee,
But I do thenk and you shud too,
'Tis due ta ee and me."

"Cos we be two on this ere job,
Iss me and Willyum Jan.
So when there's two on any job
Doat give tha praise ta wan."

"We've bin on this ere job for 'eers,
As every wan do knaw,
And Willyum Jan cant maake a sound
Until I staart ta blaw."

"Now every word I've said dear fraends
Is true wethout a doubt -
Tha raison why the music stopp'd,
I let tha wind go out."

So then ee turn'd ta Willyum Jan
And said, "Now Jan Poldue,
Tha people in the Chapel ere
Will praise boath me and you."

"And now dear fraends I'll staart ta blaw,
Then ee can staart ta play,
Cos doant ee see we mussen spoil
Our Annaversery Day."

Then when Jan finished playing
And go off tha organ stool,
And heer'd em praise boath ee and Sam,
Ee look'd a viddy vool.

But leopards never chaange ther spots,
No, nor ded Jan Poldue.
Ee'ud never say ta Sam tha praise
Is due ta me and you.

So now my dears in goin droo life
Do all tha good you can,
If you see two on any job
Doant give tha priase ta wan.

Now that's the endin ov my taale
So there's no moar ta tell,
And so until we meet again
I now must wish ee well.
